Chiefs Eliminated in Wild Card
After a long season of hi's & low's, the Kansas City Chiefs' season has come to an end after a 22-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans in the opening game of the 2018 playoffs.
The Chiefs came out the gate fast, with guns blazing, looking like they were going to blow right past the Titans. With two early TD's, including a 13-yard strike to Travis Kelce, we were ready to call the game in the first half. However, what we didn't prepare for was what was Kelce to get knocked out of the game with a concussion at the end of the 2nd quarter. It seemed as if everything changed from there.
Although the Chiefs would score one more time before the first half ended, it would be the last time they'd see pay-dirt for the remainder of the game. The Titans came out of the locker room down 21-3 and routed a 19-point comeback that was initiated by an unlikely touchdown pass FROM Titans QB, Marcus Mariota, TO Marcus Mariota - and the rest is history.
The Chiefs completely fell apart, unable to move the ball in the second half, unable to stop the ball and unable to find any type of spark in red after the blow to Kelce took place. Arrowhead got silent, fans at home got silent and the Chiefs & Andy Reid's playoff woes continue.
What we do believe that we have seen is this: the end of the Alex Smith era in KC, Andy Reid once again unable to get the job done after getting out to a hot start, and how valuable Kelce is to this team's offense and overall morale.
This season is over, but the birth of a new era, the Patrick Mahomes era is amongst us. Now, we join the rest of the NFL at home with the "we'll see what happens next year" mindset. Let's enjoy these last few weeks of football that we have, then let's see what happens next year.
